Cupcakes - Gone Buggy!

These cuppies were definitely fun to make.  The bright colors and the cute bugs made me want to eat them while I was making them!  Vanilla cupcakes frosted with buttercream icing.  Simple and delicious taste, sometimes the most simplest things are the best.  They are decorated with buttercream fondant so the entire cupcake is edible.  You can have fun eating the worm, color by color :-)

Cupcakes - Cupcake Martini's

These are cupcakes in a plastic martini glass!  Aren't they so cute?  The fun part is that you can bake up some fun cupcake flavors like a Strawberry Daquiri cupcake like this recipe  http://www.squidoo.com/cocktail-cupcake-recipes#module100307911 and make it in an actual martini glass.  How fun would these be for a 21st birthday or a bachelorette party!

Cake - Antique Fireman's Helmet

A few months ago I was asked to re-create a Fireman's helmet.  She didn't want the current helmet you see these days, she wanted an antique.  I searched the internet and found this picture of a vintage helmet with leather shield....

My next obstacle was..."How do I make this!?"  I didn't go to culinary school or to pastry school or taken any cake decorating classes so I was lost in how to begin.  But lucky for me, I am living in the age of technology where literally anything can be learned through searching the "How to's" on the internet.  And guess what!  I found this tutorial http://cakecentral.com/articles/111/how-to-make-a-3d-fire-helmet-cake and voila, here is the final product...

I added the fire cupcakes to give it little more "something, something", it looked so lonely.  So, what do you think?  Did I do a good job at replicating the helmet in the picture?

Cupcakes - Tiffany Blue & Sugar

These were made for a boy babyshower. Now that I look at them, they look a little more Tiffany Blue than Baby Blue.  Uh oh, I hope it won't be a problem.  They are so pretty though.  I'm sure no one will notice (crossing fingers).  Cupcakes are chocolate with chocolate frosting, topped with marshmallow fondant.  The entire thing is edible and yummy, except for the cupcake sleeve but if you're like me, you fold the sleeve inside out and "rake" the cake that's stuck on it with your teeth :-)  hee hee.  I know it's  weird but I've done it since childhood and it doesn't seem to hurt anyone, right?

Cake - Purple Flowers

I was asked to use the cake topper and design the cake around it.  It was a small, chocolate cake with raspberry filling (our most popular flavor) so I tried to make it as beautiful as I could.  The flowers are silk, which I prefer over real ones.  The person receiving the cake sometimes likes to save the flowers as a memory.  I also prefer silk because I don't worry about any pesticides getting into the cake and making anyone sick.  I rinse the silk flowers very well to wash off any dust that it may have collected and soap up the stems well to clean off all the "fingers" that touched it.

Star Spangled Table

Well the final product is here!  The theme of the table was "Star Spangled" for the 4th of July of course.
We incorporated both baked goods and candies.  I wasn't able to shop from an actual candy shop so instead opted for the grocery store.   I was able to find Blue and White peppermint candy and half sized Twizzlers candy straws.  Client also requested sugar cookies so we cut them out in star shapes and sprinkled them with red sugar.  Client requested a home baked looking cake so we just "rough" frosted it and of course some cupcakes, yummy.  I found this really cool do-it-yourself labels you could print out for free here  http://www.twigandthistle.com/blog/2009/07/diy-4th-of-july/   So I printed them and added them to the table as description labels.
